Will putting the meaty Hankook RS3’s to work at a San Diego Autocross event sanctioned by the SCCA.

Will Flores is a relatively new friend of mine, and one of the first things I’ve noticed was his incredibly friendly nature. Pair that with being infinitely humble, a guy that can take jokes in stride, and someone that is constantly pushing himself to become one of ones to watch in San Diego’s Autocross program, the choice was clear. From the stock tires he showed up in, to the RS3 Version 2 as the tire of choice, Will is starting to get the itch to further his skill-set. This started with running his first ever SCCA National Tour here in San Diego back in March 2015. In his first national-level event, Will placed 4th in FS going up against very tough field (Sean O’Boyle and John Laughlin took home a 1-2 finish in the 2013 M3 ZCP).

Will had now gotten a taste of the competition was instantly hooked. He also went to El Toro Pro Solo the weekend after the Tour and placed 5th in FS. As the year is progressing, it’s quite clear that he’s made a breakthrough and really picked up speed. Matt Wells in his 2011 M3 was the one to watch out for in FS here in San Diego, but is “looking over his shoulder” trying to keep the Flores 1LE at bay.

For Will now he’s refining not only himself as a driver, but working on car placement. From looking for seconds, he’s now looking for tenths to push himself as one one of the top tier PAX drivers in San Diego his Camaro. Welcome to the September 2015 Domestic apexjunky Garage Files!

What type of car do you have?

2013 Camaro 1LE

A lot of people give their cars nicknames/actual names. Do you have name for your Camaro?

Black Beast autocross nickname / Black Beauty Car show and when the car is clean.

The car has come a long way since its’ initial debut at a San Diego SCCA event. What are the changes you’ve made?

I have installed 305 Hankook RS-3s (squared out on all corners), high performance brake pads and a stiffer rear sway bar.

Is this your daily driver. If not what is that you use to get you to and from the office?

Yes the Camaro is my daily driver and its not too bad on gas.

Mod List! Let’s have it!

  • HPS+ Hawk performance brakes
  • Eibach adjustable rear sway bar
  • 305/35/20 Hankook RS-3s
  • Myself as the ultimate mod of course 😉

If you had to sum the car’s handling characteristics in one word, what would it be?

Awesome, but can’t wait to get the “Hoosierstones” [Bridgestone RE71R] soon 😉

Are there any sponsors you would like to acknowledge for their assistance in getting your car to the way that it is?, DemonMotorsports, Amsoil,

IMG_4218As most of raced cars undergo continuous changes, what are the next plans for the car?

I plan to go down in wheel size, a 19 inch including the “Hoosierstones”, and Koni adjustable shocks.

Do ever see yourself running more HPDE’s, Time Trials with NASA, or maybe Redline Time Attack instead of autocross?

It would be nice to attend a driving school and learn beyond what I have been able to learn with seat time. In the future I do see myself participating in road course events such as Streets of Willow, Laguna Seca, and Optima Ultimate Street Car events

Do you ever see yourself building something other than your car? If so what would you want to build?

If time permitting a go-kart for my daughter that will be born late November or early December ☺
